What does “offshore” mean?

If you’re new to charter or coastal fishing – or to angling in general – you may be wondering, “What does ‘offshore’ mean?”

“Offshore” fishing, as opposed to “inshore / nearshore,” features deeper water depths, different tackle and different fish species.

At Hilton Head Fishing Charters, our offshore trips feature fishing in areas about 3-30 miles away from the coast. Therefore, the fish species we catch in these areas tend to be larger. Our offshore charters are true “deep sea” fishing trips. When your trip is over we will filet and bag your catch. FYI...our vessel is docked within walking distance of 3 terrific restaurants that can cook your fresh catch either broiled, fried, blackened or fish tacos for an additional cost.

What to expect on a Hilton Head Fishing Charters offshore fishing trip:

  • The fish species vary depending upon the season
  • We use heavier gear, live bait and tackle
  • Travel time to fishing destination longer
  • We travel 3 to 30 miles offshore
  • Fish species are generally larger
  • Bottom fishing at several different artificial reefs and wrecks
  • Drifting
