Tanks, Subway Cars, and Tugboats to Reefs
Not long after new reef is created off the South Carolina, marine life take up residence. As the structures age, the populations of fish and other marine organisms that live near the reef increase. A single artificial reef can provide habitat for thousands of fish.
The ultimate purpose of the artificial reefs is to stabilize and enhance fish populations. This program is a win for ocean life, outdoor enthusiasts and Hilton Head Island which recently added a tug boat on one of it’s reefs the Betsy Ross.
The artificial reefs provide shelter, food and other necessary elements for biodiversity and a productive ocean. This in turn creates a rich diversity of marine life, attracting divers and anglers. Hilton Head Fishing Charters Tale Hunter travels to the reefs in search of many fish species off the coast of Hilton Head Island.
